Evidence of a good work environment

What is a good working environment these days?

With the majority of the workforce going online, working remotely or from home, there are definitely benefits such as less commuting stress, location independence, and even a customisable office of your own choice, with your own furniture, decorations and materials. There are also a lot of drawbacks, such as loneliness, poor interactions, poor communication, and home based distractions. How do we now define a “Good Working Environment”?

In the United Kingdom, as many as 440,000 people complain about work-related stress, depression or anxiety every single week; that equates to around 9.9 million lost working days a year.

A toxic work environment causes burnout, stress and disruptions in everyday life. It can be demotivating, unsettling and can mean that people do not want to go to work. Workplaces with a toxic environment will have a high churn rate, low office morale, and unproductive employees. They are not places that people want to be. For that reason, we wanted to share with you some of the things that make up a positive workplace to keep you motivated and inspired.

TWO WAY COMMUNICATION

Communication in a good workplace doesn’t depend solely on the higher-ups but accepts and acknowledges feedback from those under their leadership. Employee’s concerns are not neglected but taken in consideration to make the workplace more inclusive.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

Employer’s also look after their employees personal growth, not just focus on the company’s success. There should be opportunities available for employees that provide not just promotion but professional development as well. This helps employees stay competent in the field.

PEOPLE ARE APPRECIATED

A good workplace includes employees being recognised for their efforts. Employee appreciation is a simple concept, but leaders don’t seem to grasp the importance of having one’s good performance appreciated. Cultivating an environment where credit is given where it is due is important evidence that the workplace hears and understands its employees.

Value your staff and they will value you.
