Why do we need to re-skill?

Keep up, get ahead or get left behind. Simple.

Society demands even faster ways of doing things. The more it saves time and effort, the more desirable it is. Society, technology, families, friends, everything is evolving so quickly. Jobs will soon appear that have never been there before. The more technology advances, the more we need to adapt and change with it.

Globalisation is one cause of this change and whether we like it or not, we should be prepared to embrace and adapt to this new reality. For that, people will have to reskill to fill the new roles needed for the operation of a company.

Reskilling is understood as the development of additional skills to help employees shift to a new role. Take note of the word ‘new’ because this is where the change is directly concerned. So why do we need to re-skill employees?

As the employee continuously gains new required skills, they become an adaptable force that is flexible to any changes in the market. Leaving them better equipped to meet the demand of the industry they are working for and allowing employers to leverage such acquired skills to help your business perform according to your best intentions, goals and targets.

Rather than finding people outside of the organisation to fill the gaps in the roles needed for your business, reskilling your employees also allows you and them to develop a dynamic and adaptable environment. Consider looking from within your walls and foster new skills within the existing workforce as it builds good relationships among your internal stakeholders. They feel supported, it builds a positive employee culture since the company vested an interest in their growth, and ultimately, it is cheaper. Making your employees feel that they have room for improvement in your organisation will not only help them perform better but also benefit your company by improving retention.
