How to Complain About Your Property Agent

When working with a company, an individual or on a project problems can arise and complaints need to be managed. There are often complaints that can be simply resolved through communication. Then there are complaints that need litigation to resolve.

Private residential renters have the right to file a complaint if they are dissatisfied with the services provided by a leasing agency , the agent involved or the agent’s behaviour. You have the freedom to raise a complaint against your property agent if they are acting inappropriately or if you are dissatisfied with their actions. For instance, when they’re not making repairs that are their obligation or if they are harassing you in any way—for example, by invading your property without your consent. There are many more unlawful reasons landlords breach their tenants’ rights and you can call them out for those.

How can you make a complaint about your estate agent?

Bring your complaint to the agent’s attention directly. As a first step, you should try to address any issues you have with the agent directly at the outset of the issue. It is helpful to usually allow the agent an opportunity to make amends before taking your complaint to a higher level. Be aware that the agent may not be able to solve your complaint right away; so, it is worth asking how long they anticipate it could take until they can do so.

Meanwhile, you should be able to obtain all the pertinent information, such as conversations and contracts; file a complaint in writing detailing the specific problem; emphasise how you consider this matter may be addressed; and keep a record of the person managing your complaint and expect a response within 15 days.

If the agency does not resolve your complaint internally, you may file it using one of the following methods. All agents must be members of one of the schemes, however it is best to make sure your estate firm is a member from the start.
