The Pomodoro Technique Every Freelancer Should Know

There are many benefits to freelancing, including a better work-life balance and including working for who you want, when you want and getting paid what you want.

Freelancing is difficult; you have the opportunity to earn more and lead the lifestyle you like, but you must work diligently and be productive to achieve your goals. Making the most of each workday is crucial, whether you’re just starting as a freelancer or have been working independently for years. If you’ve never heard of the Pomodoro technique, this is the post for you.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Italian Francesco Cirillo developed the now-famous Pomodoro Technique for effective time management in the late ’80s as Cirillo had trouble focusing on his studies and getting his work done. Feeling overwhelmed, he pledged to 10 minutes of devoted study time. Motivated by the difficulty of the task, he searched for and found a kitchen timer in the form of a tomato (Pomodoro in Italian), and the Pomodoro technique was established.

How to practice the Pomodoro Technique?

1. Make a list of your daily tasks, starting with the most essential ones.

2. Set your timer for 25 minutes and concentrate on a specific task till the time is up, then relax for 5 minutes and repeat. The problem is that this strategy may not be appropriate for all individuals and for all tasks. So, before fully committing to a technique, it’s important to see what aspects of that approach work for you.

3. At the completion of your session, cross off one Pomodoro and note down what you accomplished.

Finally, after four Pomodoros, you should take a lengthier, more rejuvenating break of 20 to 30 minutes.

When you’re self-employed, there are always a ton of things requiring your time and energy. But because your energy is limited, it’s easy to waste it on the wrong pursuits if you don’t take a moment to plan out your priorities. If you get sidetracked while concentrating on a task or want to know how long a job takes, the Pomodoro Technique may help.
