Struggles of a Freelancer You Should Know

With everything, there are good and bad. Learnings and successes guide us and improve us every day.  Where there are benefits, there are drawbacks, and if the drawbacks outweigh the benefits, we look at what we can do to improve things and what needs to change.

There are several perks to being a freelancer. When you work independently, you handle your schedule and workload, and you choose who to work for and when. Many recent university graduates choose to get into freelancing since it allows them to pursue their interests while earning a paycheck. Still, the gap between freelancing and employment for a private company is quite large. Working independently puts you at the whim of your clients. The clients you collaborate with may build or ruin your career, from getting later and later with payments to driving you crazy with last-minute requests.

Common struggles that every freelancer’s faces are discussed below:

  1. Unlimited Revisions – You give your project a series of inspections and start it all over again from the beginning. Some clients are challenging. They aren’t sure what they want. They’ll keep asking for adjustments and revisions, dragging out the project. As a freelancer, you should avoid contracts that allow for unlimited changes. Each modification should incur additional fees.
  1. Different Timezones – Getting used to various time zones is hard for the freelancer. If you would like to meet a client or even get one, you may have to stay up at odd hours. So, freelancers whose clients live in a different time zone than them are disadvantaged. It is best for the client and the freelancer to find a time that works for both parties to arrange meetings.
  1. Unrealistic Demands – Every freelancer who has worked for a while in the job has probably had clients whose expectations were too high. And the worst case scenario is when you respect a client and they sign you up but don’t respond after you send them the final document, which also means you will not be compensated. There are sometimes clients who never seem satisfied with what you do. As a freelancer, ensure your clients on what to expect from the start.
