Calling UK from Russia

With international travel opening up once more, there is more opportunity to travel, move house abroad or go and visit friends and family overseas. Russia might not be the most popular destination for Expats, but there is a lot of opportunity there, if you can survive the cold weather. If you are overseas, and need to call the UK, making an international call can be fraught with difficulties and prone to errors. It is simple to use internet phones, VoIP or Facetime for calling, but if you are in a place with low internet coverage, you will need to remember how to dial numbers, and what those numbers are!

To make an international call to the United Kingdom from Russia, the international dialing format is as follows on the latter part of this article. For starters, when scheduling a call connecting Moscow and London in the United Kingdom, it’s worth noting the cities’ distinct time zones. Moscow is three hours ahead of London in the time zone. Unless you’re in Moscow, according to the 24 timezone, the closest convenient time for all sides to interact in a call or meeting will be between 12 pm and 6 pm. This coincides with the standard working hours in London, which are around 9 am and 3pm.

Now that we have an idea of the time calling is more pleasant to both parties, our next problem is how will you call the United Kingdom if you are located in Russia.

The landline call would now be formatted as follows:

  • 810 – 44 – 7 to 10 digits phone number

Using a mobile phone, there are two options:

  • 810 – 44 – 7 to 10 digits of phone number
  • + 44 – 7 to 10 digits of phone number

Notice that when calling a mobile or landline in the United Kingdom from Russia, the dialing format is the same. Now that you know the format, let us put a little context on the numbers presented above.

810 – Exit code and is placed before dialing an international number.

44 – The international country code for the United Kingdom is then dialed.

**Mobile Code – The area code;  The person you’re phoning will use an area code defined by his or her physical location inside the country. Check first the location and go see the list of UK area code you might need before making your call to avoid charges.
