Leaving full time work can be scary. You will lose the benefits, the holidays, the sick pay and the team spirit of working for a company, but you are becoming more independent and gaining skills that you wouldn’t have if you stayed where you are.  Can you take the plunge?

This 2023, we want you to be courageous even if it’s a presentation for a client, and have the courage to speak about what you’re going to offer without doubts that these prospective clients would decline. It is sad to say that the lack of confidence is one of the main obstacles to success for most freelancers.

You need to believe in yourself and your ability if you want to produce excellent work and maintain satisfied clients. You can’t expect others to have confidence in you if you don’t have conviction in yourself. In this article, we’re happy to show you a few tips to gain confidence, are you ready?

How to gain confidence for freelancers?

  • Stay authentic – Knowing yourself is the first step in developing confidence, therefore be real by always sticking to your principles. Also, realizing what’s dragging you down in the first place is the first step in learning to deal with it effectively. It’s easier to deal with after you’ve pinpointed the source of your scepticism.  You don’t know what to fix until you see the problem.
  • Have a growth mentality – With a growth mindset, you open the door to learning and development, pushing you to look over your existing skills. One’s self-perception and confidence in your skills play a major influence on how well you’ll do in a variety of settings, including the workplace, school, and daily life. Think positively and see yourself succeeding.
  • Exude Confidence – It’s not necessary to share your stress with your client. Keep those nerves at bay and act as if you control the place. Simply put, fake it until you make it. Everyone has reservations about their own skills and expertise and you don’t want your client to harbour similar uncertainties towards you, right? Feelings are intimately related to how you appear, act, and behave hence, if you want to gain or appear confident; dress for the success you want.

Work from a position of experience. If you know your job, and you have the experience to do it, you should feel confident in your abilities, because you know that you can do the job at hand. If you have to do something new, it is likely that you will struggle, but if you do something that you have done before, you know how it is done and will feel more confident doing it.
