Why do some employers not like WFH?

It is great that vaccines are now being administered and restrictions are being eased around the world. So then why are people still “Zooming” into regular meetings wearing “house clothes” from the sofa or bed, unbathed and unshaven?

Several employees want to work from their homes. What’s to stop you? People could save expenses on transportation, office space is freed up, employee happiness is improved, and the list just goes on. However, not everyone discusses the difficulties of doing so, which range from a lack of direction to fewer social chances for socialisation and developing relationships with peers. Many people are realising they do not really appreciate working from home full time as much as they thought they would after being compelled to do so this year. Working from home in the middle of an extremely stressful global crisis is obviously different from working from home in normal times.

If you do not like this whole Work-From-Home (WFH) setting or if you are getting drained by working all year round at home, then you are not alone. Your employer or bosses are not enjoying it too. Well some of them, but who knows?

Reason 1: Trust Issues

A superior is continuously looking for methods to exert authority. Without their eyes around to monitor you, trust issues are a barrier that needs to be resolved. “What You See Is What You Get” is the absolute opposite of working from home. A boss never sees what he or she is receiving with work from home alternatives.

Reason 2: Availability Concerns

Every organisation has the last Zoom meetings scheduled, only to discover that some of the important participants are unable to attend due to working from home.

Reason 3: Collaboration Changes

Employees get to know one other’s characteristics and mannerisms while they work in the same space. This makes it more difficult to feign criticism while also making it simpler to discuss ideas.  Team Bonding is worse now than it used to be and there are team members getting left by the wayside whilst others might be able to succeed.

Reason 4: Personal Circumstances

There are single people with no family, no children and no distractions at home that can adapt to the WFH culture faster.  There are people who can work part time in the office and part time at home, then there are people who are extremely limited and can only work from home. There is no clear and fair comparison for people’s circumstances.
