UK Green and Eco-Housing

Climate change affects everyday life. It affects the way that we shop, drive, work and go about our daily life. There are people who bury their heads in the sand and say that Climate change doesn’t exist, but they are also affected by the denial of climate change. It is everywhere. It is part of the decision to buy a new house!

If you buy a house close to the coast, will it still be there in 20 years time when the sea level rises?

If you buy a house that needs a lot of heating, are you going to be able to afford to heat it?  Does it catch the sun enough to add Solar Panels? Managing your carbon footprint is becoming an everyday task, but it is good to build it into daily thoughts.

Building a single family house in the United Kingdom consumes 50 tons of carbon dioxide through the construction process. With an eye toward a low-carbon, eco-housing, it’s no wonder that house builders are leaning to greener technology. Housebuilder Redrow conducted a latest study and found that the majority of people aren’t satisfied with their current living situation. In the firm’s assessment, demand for environmentally friendly homes has been underestimated. Moreover, the same study discovered that 60% of respondents are more willing to purchase a new house from a developer recognised for creating green residences. This implies that a status for being eco friendly may add value to firms in the real estate and development sectors.

UK developers’ perspectives on the larger market have shifted as the concept of the “eco-home” gains traction. Sustainable or ‘green homes,’ these eco-friendly projects are designed and built in a way that is quite different from the normal home. These houses are environmentally friendly without compromising quality, frequently preferring eco-friendly materials and renewable energy over the more conventional methods. Hence, sustainability is a major factor in the success of developed economies, as policymakers realise the long-term benefits of greener infrastructure.

As a result of the government’s Future Home Standard, developers are already building more eco-friendly houses, which is a positive thing for the marketplace. The Green Homes Grant in 2020 program allows homeowners to apply for a grant to improve their home’s energy efficiency. Subject to a limit of £5,000 per family, the program covers up to two-thirds of the cost of house modifications. The deadline for homeowners and landlords to complete their renovations is March 31, 2022.
